How to Apply

The Harrisburg Singers Vocal Scholarship

Requirement:

  • The applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York Counties.  An applicant who has been home-schooled is eligible providing criteria listed below are satisfied.

How To Apply:

  1. Download and complete the application.
  2. Mail the application, a CD recording of your two vocal selections for your preliminary audition, copies of your music, and accompanying documents (see application) to:

  3. Applications must be postmarked no later than Monday, February 22, 2016.

Scholarship Preliminary Audition Requirements:

  • Two selections of contrasting nature should be included on the preliminary audition CD.
  • Solo literature (an aria or an art song) is required.  Contemporary or pop songs are not appropriate.
  • If an applicant plans to be a Music Theater major, a Broadway selection is acceptable in addition to an aria or an art song.

Scholarship Final Auditions:

  • Scholarship applicants selected to perform a live audition in front of the scholarship committee will be notified by letter. The final audition will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 West Main St., Hummelstown, PA 17036 on Sunday, March 13, 2016.

Scholarship Final Audition Requirements (Live audition):

  • Two selections of contrasting nature are to be performed from memory. The selections are to be the same as those used in the preliminary audition CD.
  • Solo literature (an aria or an art song) is required. Contemporary or pop songs are not appropriate.
  • If an applicant is a Music Theater major, a Broadway selection is acceptable in addition to an aria or an art song.
  • You may provide your own accompanist for the audition or one will be available for you. If you choose to use our accompanist, a check in the amount of $25.00, payable to The Harrisburg Singers, should be submitted on the day of auditions. A taped (pre-recorded) accompaniment is not permissible. In addition, the accompanist may use only originals of your music.

Scholarship Acceptance Requirements:

  • The scholarship winner will be requested to perform a vocal solo, chosen from the audition music, at one or all of the The Harrisburg Singers spring concerts scheduled for:
    • April 22, 2016 - Colonial Park United Church of Christ, Harrisburg
    • April 23, 2016 - Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill
    • April 24, 2016 - Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg
  • The scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $1000.00, drafted to both the winning candidate and his/her institution of higher education.
  • Verification of acceptance from an accredited college, university, or conservatory for the study of Music Education, Music Performance, Music Theater, or Music Therapy, with a focus on vocal music, must be presented prior to the receipt of scholarship funds. Attendance at such institution must begin with the fall semester, 2016.
  • One scholarship will be awarded to the top scoring candidate of a final audition as stated below.
  • The scholarship will be withdrawn if the winner fails to begin his or her higher education career at the expected date or designated institution.
  • The scholarship winner will receive a total of two (2) complimentary tickets for any of the above concerts.
